Lowenkamp The Role of Probation and Parole Officers in the Collaborative Response to Sex Offenders 23 In June 2007, the American Probation and Parole Association was awarded a cooperative agreement from the National Institute of Corrections to develop a curriculum for training community corrections professionals on how to deal with low-level/low-risk sex offenders from a collaborative framework. The authors provide an introduction to the collaborative response to sex offenders, with an emphasis on the role of probation and parole officials. Brian K. Payne, Matthew DeMichele Pretrial Diversion: The Overlooked Pretrial Services Evidence-Based Practice 28 Pretrial Diversion (PTD) was not implemented in the federal judiciary under its current form until passage of the Pretrial Services Act of 1982. Since then, this program has largely failed to gain and maintain momentum. The authors attempt to offer evidence of the worth of an often overlooked program. Joseph M. Zlatic, Donna C. McAllister National Surveys of State Paroling Authorities: Models of Service Delivery 34 The authors focus on the differences among state paroling authorities in structure and standard operating procedures to present a na- tional snapshot of parole in the U.S. Results suggest that fewer states have structural similarities than have operational similarities. Kinnevy Huikahi Restorative Circles: A Public Health Approach for Reentry Planning 43 The Huikahi Restorative Circle is a group process for reentry planning which involves the incarcerated individual, family and friends, and at least one prison representative. In addition to the need for reconciliation, the circles address such basic needs as de- veloping and maintaining a support system, locating and maintaining housing, and staying clean and sober, which have been linked to reduced recidivism.
