WAHL Your old college roommate is on the telephone. Her daughter, whose press clippings of tennis winnings on the junior circuit have been enclosed in the annu- al Christmas card, has decided to turn pro. She is only eighteen, but her string of junior championship victories shows her promise. Her parents know enough to realize that their daughter's playing career is likely to be relatively short, and that they have no idea how to guide their daughter in making critical decisions about managing her career, her earnings, and her future. Your old roommate has called you for advice. Her husband is in favor of having their daughter sign a contract with one of the large sports representation agencies that provide all services for the athlete. She, however, is less certain that a big firm will provide their daughter with the individual- ized attention that they want her to have. Do you have a recommendation? You do. The wave of the future, you tell your old roommate, is specially tailored, individualized repre- sentation by experts. The large athlete representation agencies, while attractive in some respects, frequent- ly do not provide enough individualized attention or the best possible service.
