In September  2018, a memorial service was held in Siracusa, Sicily for M. Cherif
Bassiouni, who passed away  on 25 September 2017 at the age of 79, two months
shy of his 8oth birthday. According to his Wiki page, Bassiouni has been often
referred to by the media as 'the Godfather of International Criminal Law',' an
understandable  nickname   for a man who  played a crucial role in the devel-
opment  of the Rome  Statute and the establishment of International Criminal
Tribunals.2 According to Benjamin B. Ferencz, former Chief Prosecutor for the
