Weimer became the 26th Chief Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court on January 1,2021. Upon the retirement of Chief Justice Bernette Joshua Johnson on December 31, 2020, he became the senior justice on the Court and, therefore, the ChiefJustice,who is the chief administrative officer of the state's judicial system. The Louisiana Supreme Court is also welcoming Associate Justice Jay B. McCallum, representing the Fourth Supreme Court District, and Associate Justice Piper D. Griffin, representing the Seventh Supreme Court District. Chief Justice Weimer was elected to the Louisiana Supreme Court in 2001 to represent the Sixth Supreme Court District, which encompasses the parishes of Assumption, Iberia, Lafourche, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Martin, St. Mary, Terrebonne, and a portion of the West Bank of Jefferson, inclusive of Grand Isle. Chief Justice Weimer won re-elec- tion to the Court in 2002 and 2012.
