The increased production schedule and the new format will enable us to expand not only the topics but also the types of articles we publish. Therefore, in addition to the empirical research on psychological issues related to criminal justice that has been the hallmark of the journal, we encourage submission of literature reviews, book review essays, and essays or commentaries. Upcoming issues, for example, will include a review of the research on rape avoidance and a commentary on the sequestering of gang members in state and federal prisons. A number of special issues edited by prominent schol- ars are also in process. For example, forthcoming issues will focus on psychopathy and change with adults and juveniles, methodological and statistical issues in correctional psy- chology, and developing a research agenda in correctional psychology. The monthly publication of CJB also will ease our publication lag, which has sometimes hovered around unacceptable levels. When a manuscript has been accepted, everyone involved wishes it could appear in print sooner than it actually does. I am reminded of the saying, When do I want it done? Yesterday! Authors, reviewers, and CJB staff all dislike it when a good article cannot be published-the old-fashioned way-immediately. Although our new schedule will not change this situation overnight, it will begin the process by which we can reduce the lag time between submission of articles and their appearance in the journal. This is a good opportunity for me to make a few comments about the submission process. We are considering a new system of receiving, acknowledging, and processing submissions and revisions that would streamline those operations and enable authors to check the status of their manuscripts online at any time. Until further notice, however, authors should con- tinue to submit manuscripts, preferably electronically, to CJBehavior@aol.com or by ground mail to me at 216 Rector Road, Glenville, NY 12302. Please submit in Microsoft Word for- mat. Finally, please be sure to submit manuscripts in the format recommended by the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th ed.). This is particularly important with respect to the abstract and the listing and citing of references. Beginning in 2007, manuscripts that fail significantly to follow those guidelines are being returned to authors even prior to early screening. I have been involved with CJB since 1986, first as book review editor and beginning in 1996, as editor. The latter task has been both demanding and extraordinarily satisfying. Although deadlines always loom and the in basket is never empty, the editor's perch has enabled me to have access to cutting-edge research and to young, young-ish, and seasoned scholars who are almost invariably humble and gracious. Manuscript submissions arrive from across the globe and from different disciplines. This journal would not survive without the strong support of the American Association for Correctional and Forensic Psychologists (AACFP), Sage Publications, the editorial board, and our peer reviewers. The AACFP, chiefly represented by its executive officer and past president, John Gannon, played an extremely important role in getting CJB ready for its monthly venture. For his energy, friendship, and negotiation skills, I am most grateful.
