HON. WALTER D. MEALS WELCOMED
INTO OUR MIDST
The Cleveland Law School Club regaled itself
with a feast of oratory on the night of December
22nd at its regular monthly meeting. Judge Walter
D. Meals of the Court of Appeals (notice the
rhyme) released a few verbal scenarios. The mem-
bers of the club were deluged with cascades of ora-
tory to which they listened with bucolic and open-
mouthed wonder. The Judge took his audience on a
personally conducted excursion thru the realmq and
labyrinths of an action at law as she is tried in the
courts. The journey was embellished with many
sage witticisms most of which were obiter and some
of which were new. They all went across in good
shape-thus showing the Judge's ability to size up
his audience. His Honor expressed pleasure at be-
ing privileged to meet the members in their club
room because as he put it, it was the only place
that he expected ever to see them.
Judge Meals' address was delivered with his
usual felicity and was greatly appreciated by the
student body. Our latch string is always out for
the Judge. The fellows turned out in goodly num-
ber. Everybody showed enthusiasm-real pep-
thus showing that the spirit of the JAW School,
sometimes accused of being moribund, is still oi:
the job.
HONEST, IF UNTRUTHFUL
In a rural court the other day a man charged with
a minor offense listened patiently to the numerous
witnesses who testified against him. When he was
called as a witness, the customary oath was admin-
istered Do you solemnly swear to tell the truth,
the whole truth, and nothing but the truth in this
case?
Much to the consternation of the court, his reply
was: No. I am going to do just like all these other
fellows have done who have testified against me.
When oyuer was restored, the court explained to
him that it would be necessary for him to say that
he would tell the truth, whereupon the trial pro-
ceeded.

BALDWIN-WALLACE COLLEGE AND THE
CLEVELAND LAW SCH3OL
The friends of the Cleveland Law School have
felt for many years that-something should be done
to bring the students of this department into closer
touch and more profitable relationship with each
other. It is exceedingly difficult to create a spirit
of fellowship, cordiality and co-operation in an in-
stitution like the Cleveland Law School. The stu-
dents of this department get together in the even-
ing only; they are busy with the affairs and burdens
of their daily tasks, and while they are industrious
and anxious to get an education, it is nevertheless
true that their interests are not concentrated upon
their educational work alone.
It is therefore an event of unusual importance
that the student body of the Cleveland Law School
has decided to publish a monthly journal which will
bring the news of the activities of the Law School
and matters of general interest to the attention of
the students of this department. A journal of this
kind must necessarily bring the students into closer
relationship and will naturally create a better spirit
of sympathetic co-operation. I am, therefore, great-
ly delighted to be informed of this new venture, and
desire to express herewith to the members of the
st mt ry best, wishes for their splendid success in
th-s worthy enterprise.
ARTHUR L. BRESLICH,
President.
PREPARATORY SCHOOL
Preparatory School closed with a bang, Thursday,
December 21, 1916. The evening was featured with
speeches and presentations. The only thing that
disturbed the serenity of the evening was Mr. Mac-
Nulty who was running around looking as tho he,
was due for an internal hemorrhage any minute.
Mr. Greenberg, the official presenter of the tokens
of esteem was not to be fovnd, nor were the gifts.
Finally he dashed madly in looking as tho he was
