CLEARINGHOUSE REVIE.W
September, 1967
Vol. I, No. 1
This is the first monthly newsletter put out by the National Clearinghouse for
Legal Services, to inform you of some of the interesting material that we have in
our files.
The National Clearinghouse was established to act as a repository for signifi-
cant items relating to poverty law, particularly items produced by Legal Service
Projects. The material we collect is available to people working with indigent
clients. Through the publication of this monthly newsletter we hope to facilitate
the meaningful exchange of ideas among those involved in the poverty field.
It is not our present intention to survey the advance sheets for landmark
cases,.nor to give in-depth analysis of the ramifications of certain decisions.
As our staff expands and as those developing the material in the field respond more
rapidly, we may eventually fill those roles too.
The Clearinghouse became fully operational the first of August. To date we
have acquired about 400 pieces of material, ranging from briefs and pleadings to
community action material and law review articles. We have filled over fifty re-
quests for material. In the very near future, we hope to be able to fill requests
within a week.
By necessity all of the items in our files will not be mentioned in the news-
letter. If you are looking for material in a certain area, write or call and we
will send you copies of what we have or are able to locate for you.
For the Clearinghouse to be effective, you must send us copies of all briefs,
pleadings, legal memoranda, important decisions, community action materials, etc.
which you have worked on or of which you are aware. Your cooperation in this
venture will be invaluable.
The bibliography attached to the newsletter is through the courtesy of the
CEB Gazette, published by the California Continuing Education of the Bar for OEO
Legal Service Centers and Legal Aid Offices in California.
