The articles in this colloquy examine the methods and benefits of intergroup dialogue as an important part of peacebuilding and decision-making processes from the local to the international level. As Geoffrey Corry, one of our authors, said to me, Dialogue must come before negotiation. Through dialogue, parties are able to develop rapport, build trust, and reach a deeper understanding of each other's perspectives and needs. These are the necessary precursors to negotiation, and, more important, they are the building blocks of good relationships between neighbors. As the use of dialogue processes has increased, our knowledge of why they work has not kept pace. Additionally, the gap between theoreti- cians and practitioners is large and growing as innovations in techniques and methods have outpaced academic research into best practices. This Colloquy on Dialogue Processes has gathered insights from researchers and practitioners on issues ranging from local homelessness, to political solutions, to the Troubles in Ireland/Northern Ireland and many issues in between. It represents the most comprehensive look at the theory and practice of dialogue practices currently available. I hope you find this useful in your own work and share it widely.
