The British and Irish Group for the Study of Personality Disorders (BIGSPD),
founded in 1998, was the brainchild of Professor Peter Tyrer. Each year, the
BIGSPD holds a conference, and in February 2003 the event took place in
Dublin. This was wonderfully organized by Professor Patricia Casey, with the
exceptionally skilful help of Geraldine Byrne and Maura Costello. It is from
this event that the papers in this issue of Criminal Behaviour and Mental Health
are drawn. The BIGSPD is concerned broadly with personality disorder,
whereas the papers presented here are a selected subset whose content relates
particularly to forensic psychology and psychiatry, as befits this journal. Further
information about BIGSPD may be had by contacting me, the Honorary
Secretary (McMurranM@cardiff.ac.uk).
