Mr. Frank Lukes, of Baker and MacKenzie, spoke about building a foreign law collection and the basic knowledge necessary to begin any research in foreign law. He called on those involved in working with foreign law to act to i~iprove Chicago's coverage of the area. Specifically, he encouraged an effort to update Kurt Schwerin's Guide to Legal Coll- ections in Chicago (1955) and a rejuvenation of the Cooperative Acquisitions Committee. Mrs. Marta Pryjma, of Northwestern University Law School, gave an introduction to the structure of the European Economic Community and the functions of its various institutions. She welcomed anyone interested in developing a collection of materials relating to the EEC to examine Northwestern's collection and to use bibliographies that she has compiled. She also reminded the audience that until Schwerin's Guide can be updated the union catalog at Cook County can be used to some extent to locate foreign law materials. Mr. Adolf Sprudz, of the University of Chicago was ill and so unable to speak, but the text of his lecture, Basic U.S. Sources for Current Research in International Law: an Elementary Vade-Mecum was distributed along with the other seminar materials.
