 LIBRARY AUTOMATION, LEGAL EDUCATION, RESEARCH

Interview with John Nann, computer and elec-
tronic services librarian, Suffolk Law Library.

Q. I understand that Suffolk Law Library is going
to automate its collection. Have you visited any
other libraries that have an automated system?

A. Yes. We visited Boston University Law Library
and discussed the system with the people who actu-
ally use modules of [the same system we are going
to use]. We have selected Innovative Interfaces as
our vendor. When we were choosing a vendor, we
had all the library staff members test the various
systems using Internet.

Q. Will your system interact with Boston College,
B.U., and the Social Law Library?

A. Yes. Our system will be available for Internet
and dial-in access.

Q. Will faculty and students be able to access the
system at home?

continue to exist in some form.

Q. How long do you think it will take to have your
system in place?

A. We plan to have the catalog up during this
academic year. The remaining modules will come
up this summer.

Q. Will it be an integrated system, i.e., will one
entry take care of cataloging, loaning, etc.?

A. Yes.

Q. Do you expect this to result in collaboration
with other libraries, local or national?

A. Knowing what other libraries have will have an
influence on our collection and vice versa.

Q. What about CD-ROM? Is it here to stay in the
light of promises by telephone companies and the
