You now hold the belated first issue. It is the object of the Journal to keep members in contact with the activities of the Association at both a state and national level and to inform members of Maritime law matters which may be either of professional or general interest. The success of the Journal will depend largely on the contributions. We look forward to your support in this regard and thank the contributors to this first issue. In this issue is an interesting article by Stuart Hetherington, based on a commentary given at the Singapore Conference, on oil pollution. The article canvasses in detail a number of aspects of the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage (1969). In an article by Morella Calder the important question is raised as to whether or not a mortgagee of a mortgage registered under the Ship- ping Registration Act 1981 (Cth) can arrest the vessel, in an action in rem in the Admiralty irsdiction, for a breach of the mortgage. Both the author and the Journal would welcome comments on this significant use. For the benefit of those who were unable to attend, we also publish an address given by Mr Justice Sheen to the New South Wales Branch of the Association. Finally, members are advised that preparations for the Tenth Annual General Meeting and Conference are well advanced and we look forward to seeing you there as this will ensure that this Conference is as successful as its predecessors.
