Chairman's Report
by Richard W. Pogue

At the annual meeting last August,
the Council and our Committee
Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen and Sub-
committee Chairmen were presented
with six initiatives for the coming
year. In summary, these initiatives are
(1) greater Section involvement by
and with corporate counsel; (2) greater
Section involvement by and with
economists; (3) increased coordina-
tion between the Antitrust Section and
other Sections and bar groups; (4)
greater visibility of the Section on
legislative issues and the assumption of
a leadership role in addressing those
issues; (5) membership growth; and
(6) more effective marketing of Section
publications.
We have now completed the first
quarter of the 1983-84 program year,
and I am pleased to report that the
 Section has made significant progress
in each of the foregoing areas. The
 National Institute on Antitrust and
Economics hopefully will be but a first
step in increasing our interaction with
 leading economists in the antitrust
field; and we now have in place a fairly
 exhaustive list of liaison appointments
to other Sections, Divisions and bar
groups, as well as our own liaison from
 the Young Lawyers Division, Barbara
Reeves. On the legislative front, we
have recently submitted to Congress a
detailed report setting forth the Sec-
tion's views on proposed Illinois Brick
legislation and our Task Forces on the
Tunney Act, City of Boulder and the
 Administration's legislative proposals
 have similar efforts underway. An-
 titrust Law Developments (Second) is

Report on

the Section, which will be distributed
to each member of the Section without
charge; approval of the publication of
a volume prepared by the Economics
Committee entitled Use of Economists
in Antitrust Litigation; approval of a
joint program with the Northwestern
University Law School on the Robin-
son-Patman Act to be presented in
May 1984 in Chicago; and approval of
a report submitted by the Interna-

provisions of the American Law In-
stitute's proposed revision of the
Restatement of the Law, Foreign
Relations Law of the United States, as
they relate to the application of the
antitrust laws in cases involving inter-
national trade.
The Council also received a report
from the Editorial Board of Antitrust
 Law Developments (Second). The
Editorial Board reported that the new
work is nearing completion, and that
it is anticipated that the volume will
be published no later than February
 15, 1984.
Minutes of the November 11 Coun-
cil meeting will appear in a forthcom-
ing issue of the Antitrust LawJournal.
