  TRIBUTE TO DEAN TREVOR MORRISON

                       DANIEL ISHAK

Good evening everyone, thank you all for coming. My name is
Daniel Ishak, and I am the Editor-in-Chief of the New York University
Annual Suwey of American Law. On behalf of the journal, I want to
welcome you to our annual Dedication Ceremony, where today we
are so honored to celebrate Dean & Eric M. and Laurie B. Roth
Professor of Law, Trevor Morrison.
Since its founding, Annual Suwey has strived to be a practi-
tioner's journal. The journal was originally compiled by NYU Law
faculty members to serve as a practical, comprehensive guide to de-
velopments in American law. Since becoming a quarterly, student-
edited publication, we continue to honor practitioners through the
practical materials we publish, the relevant symposia we host, and of
course, our annual dedication of the upcoming volume to a distin-
guished member of the legal community. Past dedicatees include
Supreme Court Justices (Kagan, Sotomayor, Scalia, Ginsburg, and
Breyer), judges who have had tremendous impacts on our jurispru-
dence such as Judge Friendly, Judge Posner, and Judge Calabresi,
distinguished scholars like Professor Laurence Tribe, and awe-in-
spiring practitioners like Barbara Underwood. The board of Annual
Surey could not think of a better name to add to that list than that
of Dean Morrison. So, today, in recognition of his extraordinary
achievements and in commemoration of his distinguished tenure as
dean, the Annual Suwey of American Law is honored to dedicate its
79th Volume to Dean Trevor Morrison.
As I describe just some of Dean Morrison's accomplishments,
you will note that his career is defined by service. Service to the
federal government, NYU, legal scholarship, his students, faculty,
and members of his community. If we, as human beings, are mea-
sured by the legacy we leave behind then I believe there is no better
legacy to leave than one defined by service. Service to one's com-
munity is powerful; it is the essential ingredient that drives human
progress. It is the glue that binds together a complex and often
divided society. It is a commitment that becomes immediately obvi-
ous to those surrounding the service-minded individual; it inspires
and compels them to likewise invest in themselves and their com-
munity. Dean Morrison's career is a template for those who wish to
positively impact their community.
