Most infectious diseases are zoonotic-meaning that they transfer from nonhuman
animals to humans-leading to dire human health risks inherent in the large-scale
commodification of nonhuman animals.' The COVID-19 pandemic in particular
originated with the human consumption of animals, and a wet market where
humans and nonhumans crowded together served as the first super spreader
of the virus.2 The ensuing pandemic has turned a spotlight onto the dangers of
industrial animal agriculture facilities as incubators and disseminators of disease,
