San Diego's Hotel Del Coronado, completed in 1888, is best known as the playground for Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in Some Like It Hot. On October 10th and 11th it will be the stage of the first 1980-81 Affiliate Outreach Project Meeting. Up to three representatives from each affiliate are invited to attend. The ABA/YLD will pay per diem expen- ses to each attendee, up to a maxi- mum of $130 per person (maximum of $65 per day). The Affiliate Outreach Meeting agenda presents a tremendously worthwhile program for affiliate lead- ers. Successful projects previously completed by affiliates will be pre- sented to the meeting's attendees. Among the preject presentations planned are: Pro Bono Projects and Handbooks; Law Quiz and Call-A- Lawyer Programs; Community Law Week Projects; Indo-Chinese Refugee Legal Assistance; and Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms, e.g., Neighborhood Justice Centers, etc. Program participants will take part in breakout sessions-small groups designed to allow affiliate representa- tives to discuss, with colleagues, the leadership of state and local groups. Implementing pro bono programs, fund raising, programming, communi- ty service, publications and young lawyer/senior bar relations are all topics of common concern to ABA/ YLD affiliates and subjects of the breakout sessions. Past participants report the real benefit to their organi- zations from this sharing of experi- ence, and for this reason this year's breakout sessions will be given more emphasis. ABA representatives will also dis- cuss the vast resources that the ABA makes available to local organiza- tions. That assistance takes the form of financial grants, publications and affiliate visitation-a project where- by experts are sent to different com- munities to assist in areas of specific need. There will be a discussion of this year's Affiliate Outreach Subgrant Competition Program which will focus on two exciting areas of concen- tration. One is pro bono legal service delivery projects; and the other, public service projects undertaken in coordination with minority bar asso- ciations.
