Editor Volume 9, No. 1 Spring 1983 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE It is natural that each new President, as he ad- dresses himself to his year in office, will consider new horizons he can set for himself and the College. Yet staring him in the face is the charge, Just don't mess up what others have done before you! Our College is a great organization. It has reach- ed a level of excellence that is hard to improve upon. It finds its greatest strength in the ability, involvement and attitude of its Fellows. As I see it, the greatest responsibility of the President is to make sure this strength is well used and directed. To that end, I have decided that the following areas deserve emphasis this year: 1. Committees - Our committees have become increasingly active, and we want to structure and support them in a way that enables them to be effi- cient and productive. This means that each of them should be of a size that is optimum for accomplish- ing the job assigned (large enough to have a breadth of experience, and yet small enough to function efficiently); composed of members who are able to make a commitment of the time re- quired. I have made a complete review of the committee structure, and the Board of Regents has approved the changes I have suggested. Some committees have been discharged, others have been trimmed down, and changes in appointments have been made throughout.
