Horn President's Message Recently, each of us has received a telephone call from a would-be client who, obviously reading from a list, says he or she needs two wills, two living trusts, two powers of attorney for prop- erty management, two powers of attor- ney for health care and, oh, yes, two liv- ing wills, and, by the way, what will they cost. This person thinks our docu- ments are commodities. This would-be client often calls at the instance of an accountant, a stock broker, a financial planner, a trust officer, an insurance underwriter or even another lawyer, who is trivializing our work. The premise is that the thinking part of the work already is done and that our role is to push a button on a machine in order to generate documents. Much of the public does not know what we do, why we are necessary or why we charge what we do. I fear that this would-be client's view is becoming realistic and that some of us are the reason.
