HELM President's Message It is a pleasure for me to continue the long established custom of the new president of the American Bar Association conveying a message to the members of the Section of International and Comparative Law at this time. The Section has had a long and noteworthy history in our Asso- ciation, being one of the first committees created after the organization of the Association in 1878. Especially, are we proud of the Section's efforts in seeking world peace through law. Many of the fifty nine committees of the Section are engaged in some worthwhile activity whose goal is achieving a greater respect for the rule of law in international affairs. The day by day application of law, mostly in a private sense, to our world problems is surely paving the way for acceptance of law in the settlement of disputes in a public sense. One must inevitably follow the other, and the Section through its many com- inittees is keeping alive the spark of hope in a world torn by skepticism. We are likewise much encouraged by the participation of the Section and its individual members in the Association's activities on the interna- tional front. In the first Regional Meeting of the Association held beyond the continental limits of the United States and in conjunction with the XIVth Biennial Conference of the Inter-American Bar Association at San Juan, Puerto Rico in May 1965, the Section conducted one of the most successful programs of the entire meeting. There wvere outstanding speakers on matters of Inter-American concern. But more important to the success of the joint meeting was the daily contact and conversation between mem- bers of the Section and our friends of the South and ((iitral Americas.
