On 1 June 1961 Mr. Barnes called me to say that Mr. Goodwin had been visited by Mr. Ernesto BETANCOURT wao asked for immediate iinancial support for certain activit les of the MRP which would run around Shi. Mr. Barnes asked me to contact BETANCOUR T for the pul; ose of ascertaining what the funds were to be used for, exactly how much needed, etc. Z called BETANCOURT and he told mne that I should get these details from CS(EROS (Eugenio). who was staying at room 549 at the ashin;,ton Hotel. I called EugenIamnd rade a-dat for me and .ay D B-ki: (Ray Adams is the name he uses with RD.y and Cisneros) to call upon him. We called on CiNEROS at approximately 180-houre 1 Jono, and he-infored us chat he had urgeat need for pesos for use in support of his sabomie and underground activities in Cuba. lie said. his people were absolutely without funds, needed money for HW4. exes, -- rka VAMM atin -mrchse of gabotaage ,dipme-t. air lawes fnv - couriers. and for assisting people co get out of irison. He said that. it- was now possible for people to buy their way out of prison by bribing one of the many - coamunist lawyers and judges. He thought that w. We made no commitment to Eugenio. other than to say that we would pass his plea along to the interested people. I reminded him that we bad aeked him sad Manolo to prepare a plan for consideration and that we were still waiting for that plan. 1 said I personally doubted that anything could be done -ntil the plan was received from RAY.
