The following information, as reported by source during a debriefing, includes a description of the General Directorate of Intelligence (Direccion General de Inteligencia - DGI), a break-down of each of its departments, the functions of each department, a diagram (Chart A) of the organization of the DGI, and a map (Chart B) of the DGI com- pound in Habana. Int roduct ion. 1. The Gereral Directorate of Intelligence (Direccion General de Intvlig,:lncia - DGI) is the Cuban external intelligence agency, charged with maintaining security, collecting information, and promoting Cuban Government intelligence policies abroid. It is part of the Ministry of Interior (Minis:erio del Inte- rior), and was established sometime in mid-1961. It is con- cerned only with operat ions abroad. The collection of intelligence within Cuba, counterintelligence, and security are the responsibility of the Department of State Sectrity (Departamento dv Seguridad del Estado - DSE). The two agencies are independent but maintain liaison and coordination on cer- tain matters. 2.
