(1) To so much of claim 2 as may cover a gas meter,
as specified In said claim, In which the pair of inter-
meshing gears, the casing forming the externally gas-
tight chamber, and the bearings, as specified in said claim,
are not provided at each end of said meter, and in which
the teeth of the gears are not formed with substantial
backlash and oppositely set as to backlash ;
So that said claim will cover a gas meter, as specified
In said claim, in which the pair of intermeshing gears,
the casing forming the externally gas-tight chamber,
and the bearings, as specified in said claim, are pro-
vided at each end of said meter, and in which the teeth
of the gears ore formed with substantial backlash and
oppositely set as to backlash.

Amendment to the Rules of Practice.
Acting under the provisions of section 483 of the Re-
vised Statutes and with the approval of the Secretary of
Commerce, Rule 53 of the Rules of Practice in the United
States Patent Office is canceled and the following is sub-
stituted therefor:
53. In reissue applications the drawings upon which
the original patent was issued may be used upon the
filing of suitable permanent photographic copies thereof,
if no changes are to be made in the drawings.

RULE 43. When an applicant files two or more applica-
tions relating to the same subject-matter of invention, all
showing but only one claiming the same thing, the appli-
cations not claiming it must contain references to the
application claiming it.
