Drawings,
PRECAUTIONS TO Bn OBSERVED IN FORWARDING DRAWINGS TO
THE UNITED TATDS PATENT OFFICE.
Where drawings are to be filed in connection with an
application for Letters Patent In the United States Patent
Office, each sheet, before it can hc accepted by the Office as
a part of the application, must be signed in the name of
the Inventor at the lower right-hand corner, either by him
or by an attorney whose written authorization from the
applicant Is filed in connection with the application. This
signature must also be attested by two witnesses, each of
whom should sign the drawing at the lower left-hand cor-
ner of the sheet. The signatures should never be written
on a line parallel with the longer edges of the sheet, one of
the shorter edges being always regarded, for the purpos,-
of locating the signatures, as the lower edge of the sheet.
The signatures must all be within the margin-lines of the
sheet and below the lines of the drawing. The title of tlhe
Invention should be written with pencil on the back of each
sheet of drawings.
When, there are filed on, the same day two or more appli-
cations by the same inventor, each of the docutments and
dra;fn.78 belongiing to thme501 opplicatfon sllohlI, la',
placed thereon the same letter or number, 71hieh 81 ild b,
different from the letter or number placcd upon tlhse of
any other of the applications.
It is desirable that all parts of the complete application,
including the drawings, be deposited in the Office at the
same time. Should. however, the other parts of the appli-
cation be filed before the drawings are sent, the latter when
forwarded should be accompanied by a letter stating the
number of sheets inclosed, and that tLe drawings are to be
filed with the other parts of the application, giving the
date at which such other parts were tiled in the Offie. the
name of the Inventor, and title of the Invention. If th'
application has received a serial number, that should a1sn
be given, and it should be indorsed with pencil on the back
of each sheet of drawings. The letter should also state. If
such be the case, that the new drawings are to be sill1i-
tuted for those previously filed.
