Roudebush Administrator of Veterans Affairs Dear Mr. Roudebush: During our recent review of problems facing Federal agen- cies in recruiting and retaining physicians and dentists, we sent questionnaires concerning employee satisfaction and job intentions to Department of Medicine and Surgery (DM&S) phy- sicians and dentists. We also sent questionnaires to former employees to determine why they left DM&S and to physic.*ans and dentists who had declined offers of DM&S employment. In a report to the Congress we summarized the results of responses to these questionnaires. 1/ In transmitting the draft of that report to you, we stated that a mor- com- plete presentation of the results may be of interest to VA and that we would provide ycu ith this_ infor-mation. Th e- sults presented are for those who answered a particuia: ques- tion and do not necessarily ref'.ect the total number wl.o responded; not all respondents answered each question, and, for certain questions, respondents could give more than one answer. RESULTS OF SURVEY OF PHYSICIANS AND DENTISTS EMPLOYED BY DN&S We sent questionnaires conr-erning compensation, future job intentions, and other employee satisfaction matters to 185 physicians and 20 dentists who were employed by the 11 VA hospitals which we visited (see enc. I).
