404 Annals Am. Acad. Pol. & Soc. Sci. ix (1972)

handle is hein.cow/anamacp0404 and id is 1 raw text is: A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

On July 1 of this year I assumed office as President of the
American Academy of Political and Social Science.
The Board of Directors elected me to this post upon the
retirement of James C. Charlesworth in December 1970, but
because of other commitments I was unable to take office until
this year. With a wisdom that matches their vital concern for
the Academy, the Board elected Richard D. Lambert to be
President. He graciously accepted this responsibility from
January 1971 until June 30, 1972, while at the same time re-
taining his duties as Editor of THE ANNALS.
I take this opportunity to thank Dr. Lambert for his service
to the Academy in this dual role and for his continuing as Edi-
tor. I should also like to express my appreciation to the Board
for their confidence in us and their active interest in all the
affairs of the Academy. Together, and to the best of our abili-
ties, we hope to serve our members well by continuing to pro-
vide a forum for discussion and enlightenment on the major
social issues of our times.
MARVIN E. WOLFGANG
President
