S. 285
Valles Caldera National Preserve Management Act
As ordered reported by the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources
on June 18, 2013
SUMMARY
S. 285 would transfer administrative jurisdiction of the Valles Caldera Preserve in
New Mexico from the Forest Service to the National Park Service (NPS). Assuming
appropriation of the necessary amounts, CBO estimates that implementing S. 285 would
cost $27 million over the 2014-2018 period. Enacting the legislation would not affect
direct spending or revenues; therefore, pay-as-you-go procedures do not apply.
S. 285 contains no intergovernmental or private-sector mandates as defined in the
Unfunded Mandates Reform Act (UMRA) and would impose no costs on state, local, or
tribal governments.
