                   The  subcommittee met at 10:02 a.m., in room SD-192, Dirksen
                   Senate Office Building, Hon. Jack Reed (Chairman) presiding.
                   Present: Senators Reed and Braun.
                   ARCHITECT   OF  THE CAPITOL,  CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET
                        OFFICE, AND  THE  SENATE  SERGEANT AT ARMS
                            OPENING STATEMENT OF SENATOR JACK REED
                    Senator REED. Good morning. I will call the hearing to order.
                    The subcommittee comes this morning to discuss the 2023 budget
                  for the Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee.
                    I look forward to continuing to work with Ranking Member Sen-
                  ator Braun and the Distinguished Members of the Subcommittee in
                  crafting responsible funding legislation that supports the Legisla-
                  tive Branch.
                  Today   we  have with us  the Architect of the Capitol, Brett
                  Blanton, and the Senate Sergeant at Arms, General Karen Gibson.
                  I thank you for joining us here today to testify.
                  The   Director of the Congressional Budget Office, Phillip Swagel,
                  was also scheduled to join us but cannot because he is in medical
                  quarantine due to COVID-19. We wish him well and I ask unani-
                  mous consent that his written testimony be placed in the hearing
                  record.
