                          OPENING STATEMENT OF SENATOR ROY BLUNT
                  Senator BLUNT. The Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor,
                  Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies will
                  come to order.
                  This is always a good hearing for us. I think, in the 4 years that
                  Senator Murray and I have worked on this committee together, we
                  clearly have made NIH one of our priorities, and we're glad it has
                  been.
                  We have increased funding by $9 billion, a 30 percent increase
                  over 4 years, and hopefully we are not done with that process yet,
                  but hearing what you are doing with that money always helps en-
                  courage us to not only make those dollars available, but even more.
