                          OPENING STATEMENT OF SENATOR ROY BLUNT
                  Senator BLUNT. The  Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor,
                  Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies will
                  come to order.
                  We  are glad to have our friends from NIH (National Institutes
                  of Health) here today: Dr. Collins and the Institute Directors.
                  Recent support, I think, of medical research from our sub-
                  committee and the full committee and the Congress is clear. Dur-
                  ing the 3 years that Senator Murray and I have worked together
                  on this committee, we have increased funding for the National In-
                  stitutes of Health by 23 percent, $7 billion above where we were
                  just 3 years ago. We have nearly tripled the Alzheimer's research
                  amount, started the Precision Medicine Initiative, and targeted re-
