The subcommittee will come to order. I want to thank Senator Leahy for being such a good partner in this endeavor. Our hearing today is on Russia's polices and intentions toward specific European nations. The one thing that we have in common with all of these countries: they are young, struggling democracies and they are friends of the United States. Out of respect for your families, I will not pronounce any of your names. I will try to get your country right and you have an oppor- tunity when you speak to tell us who you are.
