             iONSTITUTION OF THE CHICKASAW NATION


                              PREAMBLE

Invoking the will and'\ uidance of Almighty God, we the citizens of the
Chickasaw Nation. in order to insure equal justice, to enhance and promote
educational o??oru:tu1es\among our members, to preserve and enrich our
tribal heritage and culx-r e,Xto secure to ourselves and our descendants the
rights and benefits to w ,dcn\ we are entitled, and otherwise to promote the
common welfare of the Chickasaw people, do hereby establish and adopt this
Constitution.


                          ARTICI\E I - NAME

The name of this body shall be The C~ckasaw Nation.


                       ARTICLE 1I - CITIZENSHIP

Section 1. The Chickasaw Nation shall cons st of all Chickasaw Indians by
blood whose names appear on the final rolls of the Chickasaw Nation
approved pursuant to Section 2 of the Act of April 26, 1906 (34 Stat. 137)
and their lineal descendants.

Sec. 2.    The Tribal Council shall have the power to enact ordinances
governing future citizenship and loss of citizenship i*the Chickasaw Nation.


                 ARTICLE III - RIGHTS OF SUFFERA4

Section 1. AL ctizens eighteen (18) years of age or older shall be deemed
qualified electors under The authority of this Constitution.\

Sec. 2.    No e.rolled member of another tribe or person w1o votes as a
citizen or member of another tribe shall be eligible to vote.


                     ARTICLE 1V - BILL OF RIGHTS

Section 1. Noth!i- in this Constitution shall be interpreted in a way\,w,,hich
would change -e -ividual rights and privileges the tribal members hae as
citizens of te Cb-c<asaw Na:ion, the State of Oklahoma, the United Sttes
of America and -Uaranteed under the Indian Civil Rights Act.
