Cardozo for ten years' service as the Association's first Executive Director; 2) Adopted Rules of Procedure orginally proposed by the Special Committee to Draft Rules of Procedure as modified by the Execu- tive Committee; 3) Admitted to membership in the Asso- ciation, on the recommendation of the Com- mittee on Accreditation, the following two schools: Brooklyn Law School and Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon; 4) Elected the following officers to serve during 1974: President: Soia Mentschikoff University of Miami President-Elect: Charles J. Meyers Stanford University Executive Committee Members for 1974 and 1975: John E. Cribbet University of Illinois Herbert 0. Reid, Sr. Howard University; 5) Referred for study a proposed resolu- tion urging that an applicant's sexual prefer- ences be considered irrelevant to the good moral character requirement for admission to the bar; 6) Sustained the ruling of President Rosenberg that a proposed resolution calling on the U.S. House of Representatives to commence impeachment proceedings against President Nixon wasout of order as not germane to the purposes of the Association. FROM THE OFFICE OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR March 15, 1974 FACULTY RECRUITMENT CONFERENCE In her address to the House of Representatives in New Orleans, President Mentschikoff proposed that the recruiting function be separated from program activities at the Annual Meeting by holding a separate Faculty Recruitment Conference during the weekend following Thanksgiving. The Executive Committee has decided to try this on an experimental basis. Plans for the Con- ference are now underway. Space has been reserved at the Washington Hilton Hotel for Friday and Saturday, November 29 and 30. The Faculty Appointments Desk will be operated from noon Friday, November 29th to noon Sunday, December ist. All those who sign up for the fall edition of the Faculty Appointments Register will be urged to attend the Conference, as will others in- terested in teaching positions. The deadline for the fall Register will be moved up to October ist, so that the Register will be in the hands of the deans about October 15th. If a sufficient number of late appli- cations are received, a supplement will be distributed early in November. All schools interested in recruiting new faculty members for the 1975-76 academic year are urged to make plans to send representatives to the Faculty Re- cruitment Conference. Additional information on pro- cedures and details on hotel arrangements will be dis- tributed early in the fall. There will be no Faculty Appointments Desk at the Annual Meeting in San Francisco, and deans are asked to restrict recruiting activities during that meeting to a minimum so that all may participate in the general and Section program activities. 1974 ANNUAL MEETING The 1974 Annual Meeting will be held in San Francisco, with headquarters at the Fairmont Hotel. Program Committee Chairman Sanford H. Kadish of the University of California at Berkeley, is planning a full day of activities of general interest on December 28th, including panel discussions as well as the Association Luncheon and Association Follies. Section programs are tentatively scheduled for both December 27th and 29th. During the first session of the House of Representatives at the Annual Meeting in New Orleans, a few minutes were devoted to a tribute to Michael H. Cardozo in recognition of his service as Executive Director for the ten years be- tween 1963 and 1973. An illuminated scroll signed by all the Association presidents during that period and a pair of graphic prints were presented with an introduction by Walter Gellhorn. Mike acknowledged the occasion with a few words of appreciation, but has asked permission to transmit a part of his message to his colleagues in the AALS in this News- letter, to reach those who were not present at the session and may not see the transcript in the Proceedings: This has been an especially heartwarming occasion because of the people involved. Those who heard the reading of the names on the scroll will readily realize why my work with the officers of the AALS has been so satisfying. They have been representatives of that special class of humanity, the law teachers, who combine the qualities of being lawyers - better to work with, to drink with, to argue with, than most other varieties of mankind- with that extra ingredient of concern for the public interest that distinguishes the law-trained educators. I thank all of those whose evincing of those qualities made my tenure so personally rewarding and whose contributions to the recogni- tion of that tenure created such pleasant mementos. A MILLARD H.
