Attendance at the 1971 Annual Meeting in Chicago was around 1.350 registered partici- pants. It marked the first time that member schools were represented by official delegates, who will be called representatives at the 1972 meeting as the re- sult of the adoption of the following proposal of the Committee on Purpose and Structure: Section 3-2. House of Representatives. The authority to conduct Association business at the annual meeting or special meetings is vested in a House of Representatives composed of one represenative from each member school. The faculty of each member school shall select the individual who is to represent the school in the House of Representatives and an alternate Representative to serve in the absence of the regular representative. Faculty members of the member schools may attend the meetings of the House of Representatives and have the privileges of the floor, but voting will be restricted to the elected representatives. (Technical conforming amendments were also adopted for Sections 3-4, 4-1 and 4-2.) The 1971 Annual Meeting also marked the first annual meeting of the incorporated Association of American Law Schools, Inc., and the use of the expression Bylaws of the Association, instead of Articles of Association. The bylaws will appear in full in Part Two of the Pro- ceedings of the 1971 Annual Meeting. Annual Meeting, 1972. As previously reported, the 1972 Annual Meeting will be held in New York City on December 27-30, 1972, with the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel as headquarters The chairman of the Program Committee for the meeting is Professor Nathaniel Gozansky of Emory University School of Law. 1972 Officers and Executive Committee The entire slate presented by the Nominating Committee, as reported in the Newsletter of November 29, 1971 was duly elected, so that the Officers and Executive Committee for 1972 are the following: EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE FOR 1972 PRESIDENT RICHARD C. KENNETH PYE Duke University School of Law February 29, 1972 Academic Freedom and Tenure During the second business session of the Annual Meeting on December 29, 1971, the Association adopted the following resolution: The Association of American Law Schools strongly reprimands the University of Florida for its viola- tion of academic freedom in the manner of its dis- missal of Professor Lamborn. The Association recog- nizes the complexity of formulating the institutional measures best suited to overcoming the consequences of past violation of academic freedom. It recognizes also the desirability of enabling both Professor Lamborn and others to plan for the future. The Association there- fore requests the Executive Committee to determine finally at its February, 1972, meeting the adequacy of the offers of reinstatement and compensation which, the Committee may reasonably anticipate, will by then have been made. At the Executive Committee Meeting of February 3 and 4, 1972, the Committee had before it an exchange of letters between Dean Joseph R. Julin of the University of Florida College of Law and Professor Leroy L. Lamborn, setting forth the University's offer of reinstatement and compen- sation, and Professor Lamborn's statement that he regard- ed the offer and the assurances as an acceptable recog- nition of his position and the Association's support, and, as a consequence, he was disinclined to pursue the matter further. Accordingly, the Executive Committee considered the matter settled and that it had no further obligation of determining the adequacy of the offers of reinstatement and compensation pursuant to the resolution of December 29, 1971. The Executive Committee recognized that Professor Lamborn's efforts to vindicate his position effectively demonstrated the need for the promulgation of improved Association procedures for academic freedom and tenure cases. Such procedures are in process of being drafted in consultations between the members of the Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure and the Executive Committee.
