NEWSLETTER

FROM THE O,FFICE OF THE. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Number 68-1

February 12, 1968

It is peculiarly fitting that the Association of American Law Schools notes in
the pages of this Newsletter its sincere regret on the death in January, 1968, of
Loren R. Darr, President of Foundation Press, shortly after he appeared at our Annual
Meeting in especially good spirits. Law teachers will long be using the valuable
written tools of their trade that were produced under his management.

AALS Executive Committee - 1968

As a result of the elections at the Annual Meeting on December 30, 1967, the
Executive Committee for 1968 will be the following:

President: Joseph T. Sneed
Stanford University School of Law

Serving during 1967 and 1968:

David F. Cavers
Harvard University Law School

Serving during 1968 and 1969:

       Robert F. Drinan, S.J.
       Boston College Law School

New Members of AALS

President-Elect: William B. Lockhart
University of Minnesota Law School

William B. Harvey
Indiana University School of Law,
Bloomington

Richard C. Maxwell
University of California School of Law,
Los Angeles

At the General Session of the Annual Meeting on December 28, 1967, CALIFORNIA
WESTERN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW was newly elected to membership in the AALS. At the
same time, the independence of the law schools of INDIANA UNIVERSITY IN INDIANAPOLIS
and of RUTGERS, THE STATE UNIVERSITY, IN CAMDEN was recognized, and their continued
membership in the Association was approved.

The official membership of the Association is now 118 law schools.

Annual Meeting: 1968

As previously announced, the Annual Meeting for 1968 will be held in New
Orleans, with the Roosevelt Hotel as our headquarters. The theme of the meeting
will be The Developing Countries and Legal Education. Round Table Councils and
Committees desiring a place on the Program for a round table are urged to communi-
cate promptly with the Chairman of the Program Committee, Professor Kenneth Karst,
University of California, Los Angeles.

Because of the traditional football Bowl game in New Orleans on New Year's
Day, the AALS Annual Meeting has been scheduled for one day earlier, so that the
official dates of the meeting will be December 27, 28 and 29, 1968.
