  Directory of Law Teachers

For all intents and purposes, there is no 1967 Directory of
Law Teachers. The green covered pamphlet that appeared at the time of
the annual meeting is, by general agreement, completely unsatisfactory.
Accordingly, plans are proceeding for a 1967-68 edition to be published
in September, using the traditional format of the 1966 Directory and its
predecessors. Questionnaires will be distributed in the Spring of 1967.
Because West Publishing Company has found it impossible to administer
the editing of the Directory in accordance with the necessary timetable,
the processing of the questionnaires and other editing will have to be
done in the Office of the Executive Director of the AALS. This will be
expensive, but it is felt that the Directory is of such importance that
the membership will approve the use of Association funds for this purpose.

  Federal Legislation

Many items of legislation of concern to those in legal educa-
tion will be considered by the Congress and administered by the Execu-
tive Branch during the coming months. The Office of the Executive
Director will make every effort to keep track of these programs and to
urge that the interests of law students, law teachers and law schools,
and other aspects of the legal profession generally, are not overlooked
by those who are making the decisions but may not be fully informed on
the subject of legal education. Representatives of the American Bar
Association, backed by an authorizing resolution of the House of Dele-
gates, will cooperate. Advice, suggestions and help from law teachers
  will be welcome indeed.

  Legal Clinics

The Council on Education in Professional Responsibility (see
 AALS Newsletter of May 16, 1966, p. 4, and September 20, 1966, p. 1)
has declared a temporary moratorium on consideration of grants other
than grants for teacher training projects or for the production of
teaching materials. It will also consider applications for grants in
amounts not exceeding $7,500 provided they are of exceptional merit.
The purpose of the moratorium is to enable the Council to make a full
reevaluation of the program to date.
