My September stopover within range of Dorothea's remarks had as one of its purposes bringing the Chicago Association of Law Libraries up to date on AALL activities, an assignment which might have been handled more effectively by some member of the Board less covered with travel dust and salt spray than I, but an assignment which I relished. I do not know whether the Chicago Chapter learned much about Associ- ation activities, but I learned much about their enthusiasm, strength, and co- operative spirit, and had a Joyful time at their quarterly meeting. I am sorry that the necessity for returning home in a straight line made it impossible for me to visit also the Washington Chapter, which very thoughtfully extended'an Invitation. Plan Now for the Chicago Meeting and Workshop One of the first accomplishments of the Local Arrangements Committee, co- chairmaned by Dorothy Scarborough and Bill Murphy, was obtaining the consent of the Chicago Chapter to postpone its Annual Workshop until the week preceding the convention, so that our non-Chicagoan members can attend. The Workshop will be much like a combination of the very successful Institute which preceded the Los Angeles meeting (a description of which you can read at 46 L.L.J.333-335, Nov. 1953), and the regular Chicago Workshops, the Proceedings of which every good AALL member has in his library collection. The educational value of the Work- shop will be such that none can afford to think himself too well or too little educated to attend; the fees will be moderate, and lodging will be comfortable and inexpensive in quarters near the meetings' site. Amend your time and money budgets now, to cover the Institute, June 28-July 2d, and the annual meeting, July 5-8. Details will follow in the Journal, or perhaps in later newsletters, as we receive them from the Local Arrangements Committee and the Institute Planners. The November Law Library Journal will be late, but we know you will be understanding about the delay when you learn that our new Editor, Harriet French, has been Ill and has displayed a devotion to her editorial duties which may not have the wholehearted approval of her doctor. Dorothy Salmon, Assistant Editor, Bill Stern, Chairman of the Law Library Journal Committee, and Lucile Elliott, Past President, all have contributed much time and effort to assisting Harriet with this issue, and to helping her plan for the February issue. If your remarks at the Miami meeting do not appear verbatim in the November issue, blame the Executive Board, not the Editors. Faced with the need for economy, the Board voted in July of 1954 to maintain the Proceedings issue, but to eliminate at least 25% of the recorded copy. This is still pretty fair re- porting for posterity; the 1953 American Library Association proceedings took only 59 pages. Have you sent Louis Piacenza your suggestions for 1955-56 candidates? Your opportunity to advise the Nominating Committee is running out; Chairman Piacenza will have to transmit its report by December 1; we think his offer to listen to you expires this week.
