T e  7year, and under the leadership of President Robert C. Ber-
ring, it was a banner year, indeed, with the largest Annual
MMeeting, with the membership of the Association at an all-
Records                                           time high of 3,977 and with increased activity at all levels.
Washington, D. C., 1986, will long be remembered as one
of the best.
The 1986 Washington, D. C. Annual Meeting broke all
previous records for attendance, topping the previous largest
Annual Meeting, 1985 in New York City.
Total paid attendance stands at 1,846, which includes paid
members of the Association, member and non-member
students and other non-members from the Washington, D. C.
area and from other organizations. 121 non-members par-
ticipated as speakers on the educational program, and 657
men and women were with us in the exhibit hall. Attendance
at the 79th Annual Meeting was a grand total of 2,642.
The exhibit hall was the largest in the history of the Associa-
tion, where 137 firms and organizations occupied 178 exhibit
booths. The exhibit hall featured the ever-popular continen-
tal breakfasts on three mornings, and the new Meeting
Place attracted members throughout each day as a place for
relaxation and refreshment.
Over 1,600 enjoyed the Opening Reception on Sunday night. 1986 Annual Meeting Program Chair Alan Holoch and Local

Live fame as the Master of Ceremonies.
Another notable record was set by the Program Committee,
under the leadership of Program Chair Alan Holoch. A total
of 64 separate educational programs were offered, the most
ever, providing the membership with a wide variety of in-
teresting and challenging professional experiences.
Over 500 members and guests took advantage of the
Special Tours and Visits program, another first at an An-
nual Meeting, and enjoyed seeing over 40 Washington, D. C.
law libraries, government agencies, institutions and
information-related facilities. The special Washington, D. C.
T-Shirt was sold out, and sales of the new Association
Membership Pin were brisk.
