I. INTRODUCTION
Recent years have brought an increase in public concern
over genetically modified (GM) organisms and their possible
impact on the health and safety of consumers and the
environment. GM food supporters revere the enhanced quality
and taste, increased yield, lower production costs, heightened
pest and drought resistance, and shorter production times of
transgenic foods. However, opponents fear the yet unknown
environmental, social, health, and ethical risks that these foods
bring with them.' The divided views are, to different extents,
