This modification appears to be an example of an adjustment in the interpretation of the law which brings it into closer conformity with business and advertising practices of the day. A glance at a selected list of well-known ingredient marks will indicate how popular these marks have become. Some of them are set forth in a simple direct manner: cHIFFoN Flakes with ARCTIC BRIGHT 'FOAMY contains K-34 LA FRANCE Bluing with LUMINESS SUPERGLOW liquid make-up containing LUMIUM New WILLIAMS Lather contains LANOTRATE 2511 THANTIS lozenges-each containing MERODICEIN RINSO soap with SOLIUM 'VASELINE Cream Hair Tonic contains VIRATOL with Lanolin New VITALIS with V-7 CREST toothpaste with FLUORISTAN Many of them are coupled with a description of the qualities or purpose of the ingredient: SUPERGLOW fluid make-up combines also another beautifying ingredient-G-62 KOCAL is a scientific ingredient that whitens as it brightens (PINE-SOL) EYE-GENE contains soothing LEXATOL New mUM with M-3 kills odor bacteria MENNEN'S Spray Deodorant for men contains a special ingre- dient PERMATEC WOODBURY Cold Cream has PENATEN, the ingredient that makes cream penetrate deeply into pores SiMONIZ floor wax, fortified with SIMOLITE IPANA with enzyme destroying WD-9 * Member of the bar of the State of New York; Associate Member of U.S.T.A.; member of the Sub-Committee on Trademark Law Revision of the New York Patent Law Association. 241
