Gavin Ruxton Moderator ......................................... Philip Rubenstein Philip Rubenstein: Welcome to the first session of the Conference, the Michael S. Bernstein Prosecutors' Symposium. I would like to welcome our representatives from the United States, Canada, Aus- tralia, and all of our representatives-four, including your chair- from the United Kingdom. The first person I would like to introduce is Ronnie Edelman. Ronnie is the Deputy Director in charge of litigation at the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) of the United States Justice Depart- ment. She was previously a trial attorney in the Fraud Section of the Department of Justice's Criminal Division, and while she was there, she was involved largely in the prosecution of white collar crime. Ronnie came to OSI as a senior trial attorney, and she is now the Deputy Director. I am particularly delighted to welcome her, as she is the first woman ever to have sat as a member of this prose- cutors' panel. Ronnie Edelman: I would first like to give you just a few general comments about the Office of Special Investigations, and then tell you a bit about the Office's current activities. As many of you know, unlike our counterparts in Australia, Canada, England, and Scot- land, we in the United States are unable to prosecute Nazi war
