The website address is: http://www.biall.org.uk BIALL is saddened to learn of the death of Betty Moys on Friday 1 February after several months illness. The law library community will be the poorer for her unexpected loss and many of us will also feel the loss of a good friend. Betty Moys' career spanned 40 years of law librarianship, general academic librarianship and, after her retirement in 1989, a new career in legal indexing. In all she excelled. In law librarianship, her name is synonymous with the classification scheme for law, published in four editions between 1968 and 2001 and adopted by many law libraries around the world. But her activities in law librarianship encompassed so much more. She was one of that founding group who had such a formative influence on BIALL and, in her case, on its publications, despite the fact that she no longer worked in a law library after 1968. She took on editorship of its journal, The Law Librarian (1970-77), and contributed to its publications policy for many years, including editing both editions of the Manual of Law Librarianship (1976, 1987). During this period she was also active on BIALL Council and its committees. Her good sense and hard work helped make the Association what it is today. In 1998 she was joint recipient of BIALL's Wallace Breem Award for editing Information Sources in Law, 2nd ed. (1997). BIALL invited her to be its Vice President (1987-90), then President (1990-93). In 1999 she was awarded the MBE in recognition of her contribution to law indexing and classification.
