MR. BARASCH: I welcome you this evening to a very special con-
ference dealing with current trends in the transmission of information by
the news media.
The establishment of a free press was based upon the belief that con-
troversy is vital to public information and creates a system of justice in
which exchange of views is the heart and soul of freedom. We believed in
the dignity of man and the right to pursue life without fear and tyranny.
